To be honest I would like to believe the figure was high, mainly as the same exact stat applies for sports gambling also. Just 5 percent of sports bettors actually turn out on top and make a long term profit, I would like to feel that with the chances Involved in our favour as traders, that we'd be successful. I did see a chart from a broker some time back and it revealed profit and loss from percentage for clients throughout 2011. I remember it saying 70 percent had negative balance by the end of the calendar year, so 30% would've made a profit throughout 2011.

Based on an official analysis from PhD John Forman based on thousands of LIVE Accounts in RETAIL ONLINE FOREX BROKERS, only 0.4% end profitable following 1 year of gambling.

Seriously, I want the numbers were different, and 50% left a profit, which would be great for everybody in this forum, but the Sad Truth is that only 0.4percent are profitable following 1 year of trading. So, 99.6percent eliminate money following 1 year of trading. Again, we are speaking about FOREX BROKERS.

The US Government compelled RETAIL FOREX BROKERS to report every thing because year 2010, that is why you will only find official numbers for the last few decades.

I concur that such a large proportion of traders can be losers in Foreign Exchange market. This is only because so many confront the problem of having a proper mentor-ship which causes them continue trying in their own and in the process, they shed large quantity of money.

If you coming to forex with the purpose of earning huge amount money right away within a couple of years... you wont last long.

I believe your goal inside the first year will be to gain as much understanding as you can and monitor time ie. Watch the price action

if you're breaking even in the first year then you're already doing nicely

second year is if you will starting to be profitable...

my analogy is when a brain surgeon takes 10 years and huge amount of debt to become qualified... why should a professional forex trader be any different.

The main reason behind its large turn over rate is most people come into match with the exact wrong reason as noted above and just give up.

It is a fact since you are able to see around you that most of the traders which you speak too or talk about trading, they are seemed to worry about their losses. So in this case I can say that 95 percent are losers in Foreign Exchange market.

    Q3 2012
    % Profitable: 26%
    % Unprofitable: 74%
    Complete Accounts: 20,071

    Q 2012

Looks like more than 5% survive, but of course we don't know how much winners create, or losers lose.

The numbers can be so large as the majority of the traders I met are struggling in forex trading. A fantastic barrier for most of the non english traders is the language barrier they confront as the majority of the learning stuff is in english.
