Thread: Please Help! How to get MT4 (build 670) to send email alerts?

  1. #1
For the life span of me, I cannot set up my MT4 correctly to send email alarms to my gmail, or any other email server for that matter. I've tried hmailserver, GMX email, etc.. I've searched the internet everywhere for a solution, but seem to be applicable only for older builds (pre 509?) Now I'm on build 670.

I'm not even trying to do anything elaborate. Only a simple price alert, using the built-in price alert work from the platform itself.

Has anyone figured out how to set up email alert for this particular variant of MT4?

Thanks so so much in advance for any help!

    Hello Jeffx
Thank you a lot for your generous help. I have tried what you suggested, followed each step exactly. It appears to be ok when I examine and activate among my indiors, to see if email alert is being sent out. No error message. I get Mail:... has been shipped But for some reason, I don't get any mail in my gmail. So I am wondering where the mail went, if it was shipped out?!

I utilize exactly the Exact Same gmail for from and to fields. Are you still using this solution? And it's still working for you? I believe it may be platform connected? Which broker do you use?

Thankx again for your willingness to help, Jeffx!

    Hi,

like I said, email is working fine for me with construct 670 with the answer above. My mt4 screenshot setup in that link basically forwards the alert right to my cell phone, it does not also place the awake in my gmail inbox. I did not need it to do that - it's easier for me to keep or cleanup alarms in one area. In case you want alerts to proceed only for your gmail, attempt also putting your gmail address in the To box for the mt4 configuration. The fact that you have the Mail. . .has been shipped is good, and you're almost there. The broker does not matter.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you so much Jeffx.

I continued to have problems getting mail to provide. Still cannot get Hmail to operate properly. Worse than this, some brokers' platform apparently will have problems when attempting to set up email alerts. Specifically for me, it had been the FXDD Mt4 platform which gave me most problems. After setting up email alert function in the platform , I got locked out of the platform completely. On startup the platform only freezes and remains that way regardless of what I do. Removing indior files for the indiors I had loaded on my charts, in case the indiors were causing the freeze, did not help either. In the long run it was clear to me that it directly came from setting up the email alert function. (not associated with hmail, but the built-in email function of this platform construct 600 ) This entire build series is simply not stable at all. I wound up losing all my charts that I marked up and never stored templates for.

Anyways, now beginning over. And I am just going to keep away from setting up email function in my MT4 platforms, because I do not want to risk facing the same problem again. So I tried using an MT5 platform for the first time, for the sole purpose of utilizing its email alert function. And guess what, it works perfectly and sends out email alerts immediately, without the usage of a SMTP server like Hmail. I found a website that had all the SMTP settings for most of the popular email servers (https://www.arclab.com/en/amlc/list-...rver-list.html ) I enter the provided information into MT5 email configuration, using my hotmail to send alerts to my gmail account. And today my alerts arrive at gmail pretty much immediately the moment price alerts are triggered. I am really loving MT5 today, at least for its alert capability. Constructed in price alerts are a cinch to insert on charts, and may be dragged to alter. Simpler to use than any price alert indiors I have come across.

So issues solved . I am only using MT5 to do my price alerts completely, and continue to utilize MT4 to do my charting (because I need my MT4 custom indiors for my own trading), so I would not need to worry about MT4 locking me out due to this email issue . I am glad.

Thanks again for your help, Jeffx. And I hope someone else can use everything I have shared here too.

    Cheers!

MXT 4 alerts. I've put these up and once I press on the test buttom I receive the amil alert no problem however when I put an alert on MXT 4 and then select email this looks in the alarm tab as alert not email. I go again and change this to email and if price action strikes the alert no email sends just the alert sounds does anyone else have this problem?

Follow my article below, which also applies Sedric's recommendation/post at precisely the same thread. Mt4 alarms through gmail works fine for me with construct 670.
