I have been reviewing the Ensign Software website and the truth is that it has impressed me a lot by all the tools and flexibility it offers. I would like to use Ensign, but between the $40 monthly and the data download charges, and considering that I don’t have much experience with Ensign or with the available data options, I would appreciate some guidance on the most economical and efficient way to take advantage of the software and what are the best data download options. Is anyone here using Ensign? What data provider do you use? What requirements do these data services require? Do you have to operate with them to give you access? And if so, what are the best conditions (minimum account size, spreads, commissions, charges, options, etc.)

Instead of using Ensign, you might consider Sierra Charts. It’s cheaper. Both Ensign and Sierra Charts allow you to use data sources such as Interactive Brokers and eSignal. Ensign has some more options in terms of fonts, but Sierra meets perfectly. eSignal costs about $101 per month, and if you want to include Forex, it’s another $51. You can open an account with Interactive Brokers with about $2,001 and get the data feed for $11 per month, including Forex. If you do operations from that account, the feed comes out free.

I opened account at Interactive Brokers just for the feed. It’s a bit cumbersome at first, but for $11 a month you have reliable data, and if you operate, you don’t even get charged that. Yes, get ready to deal with a platform that looks like 2005 you can use that data both in Sierra and Ensign. IB’s advantage is that it’s serious and has good market coverage.
