Thread: Whats Up With Oandas Spreads?

During last two weeks, I believe any honest broker (I mean the one who fill your orders) increased their spread.

My regular spread on GBPYEN is 8 but it was standard to see it jump to 15 much all the time.

A buddy of mine broker maintained it is spread to 8-9 but he was Not Able to enter the position even by accepting a 5 pips slippage

One more question, a couple of traders had mentioned to me that this is usually month and will more than likely be slow. I was completely in awe to watch 20-30 pip moves GBP/JPY last thursday and friday.

I've only been trading since March, and have seen no volatility like this from the market since I've started...:amazed

Will this last or was that just a 2 day fluke??

I exchange with Oanda also, and what you've seen is simply normal having in mind that the low liquidity in the markets.

About what will happen. Take into account this:

As you know, the forex markets have been behaving quite erratically over the last several day, primarily due to a lack of overall liquidity. This has led to spreads which are wider than prices too.

Please bear in mind that this might not only last as the markets available in the far east Monday morning (Sunday day EST), but might be even more extreme at that time. While OANDA is dedicated to offering the tightest spreads potential, provided market conditions, weekend spreads may be tightened later than normal, and spreads might even have to be widened to more than what's typical on weekends.

That is from Michael Stumm, Oanda´s CEO. And this the first time I see him creating a warning.

Wow, this is due to Low Liquidity??!!

Strange to say the least, to see each currency move so much in price. Am I understanding that this right, that liquidity drives prices? And this is actually the first time you've noticed this warning.... How long have you been with oanda?

Two decades and that´s the idea. Bear in mind, Europe Big boys are on vaion and correlation between bandwidth and ATR is inverse. That´s why in normal conditions the liquidity pair, EUR/USD, has the lowest ATR between majors.

The very first time I see this. No, but maybe it´s the wildest. Usually vaion spans August and January price is sensitive. And everyday before big news low liquidity can be seen by you. That´s actual brokers expand spreads at news times.

Turbo and I was speaking the other day once I asked him what was -- IB's spreads were a bit high as well. Just how it is with volatility.

It seems the market has calmed down from a couple of weeks ago. However, oanda's spreads are still around the place...

Not the weekend spreads Lou, was referring to the spreads throughout the week. It appears they cant make their minds up about what to create them. Every day was something different.
