Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
A quick question that sure has already been asked before. If I have a cost-effective system and I start to share it, and more and more people use it, there is a belief that the system will stop working. Can anyone explain exactly why that happens, if in theory more buyer or seller force should make it work better?
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
I think that's just a myth invented by those who sell systems. They don't want competition, so they release that idea and it becomes true among those who don't question anything. Other than that, I don't see any logical reason. I dream, then I exist.
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
There is no way that a functioning system will stop doing it just because 10,000 people use it. Every day, every hour, every minute, they buy and sell currency for thousands of different reasons. One of those reasons may be your system, but the others will be for other systems, political decisions, business, investments, pure operations, carry trades, etc.... the list is infinitely long.
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
Because people will try to get ahead of you, causing false signals. The same is true of take profit: if everyone makes profits before, the price never reaches the target point. The market would become a flat line, lifeless, if all traders waited exactly the same signal to act.
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
Come on, wiz... do you really believe in that nonsense?
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
It's not the system that works... it's the trader... I sigh... so much stuffed turkey and so few neurons.
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
And you too... you know perfectly well that that's a fool... come on, eat another little turkey... open a champagne like me... we're all too bored today. This Thanksgiving isn't what it was last year, huh?
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
Look, retail traders account for about 2% of total liquidity, so even if we all used the same strategy, we wouldn't move half a pip. Plus, you could give away the best system in the world and still 95% would lose everything with it.
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
Logically, it should make the system work BETTER, not worse, if more people buy or sell at the same time. But as they said above, we are insignificant. What we buy or sell has literally Zero impact on the graphics. The real goal is to get on the train of the big ones, those who really move the market where it suits them.
Re: Why can knowledge of a system make it useless?
I have read all the answers and, honestly, some make me laugh. Do you really think that a system becomes useless just because others use it? That idea sounds more like the excuse of those who do not know how to execute it well. The problem is not that it is shared, the problem is that very few know how to apply it correctly. Most lose not because the system is bad, but because they have no idea how to manage their emotions, their capital or even a simple entry. You can give someone the winning formula and still lose. The market does not punish the copyer, punish the one who does not understand.
