Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Hi everyone. I’ve already been in demo for six months and three months in real. I’ve lost more than half of my account, and although I know it’s part of the process, I’m starting to wonder if this is for me. Is it normal to be losing so much time without seeing positive results? I’m following risk management and I have a log.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for answering me privately some. I have adjusted my stop loss to a more conservative R, but it still gets me out many times because of market noise. Has this happened to you at the start? Should I expand my SL or is it bad practice?

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
I have noticed that when I operate less, I lose less. Literal. I only do well when I do nothing. I do not know if it is that my strategy is useless or I am the problem.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
To all gurus who say that this is "easy" or that "with discipline you win", I invite them to my MyFXBook account. I am fed up with the romanticization of trading. This is frustrating.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
To those who have just begun, sincere advice: if you are not willing to see your account in red for months without results, do not enter this world. More resilience is needed than intelligence.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Respectfully, stopping losing is not the same as winning. I managed to stop burning accounts, but I'm still in break-even after almost a year. Sometimes that's the first big step.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
It's not normal, it's NECESSARY. The market charges you for learning. No one comes out unharmed from the first few months. The key is to lose less every time and document EVERYTHING.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
There are people who haven't been profitable for years and still don't give up.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
What if the problem is that you're in real too soon? Three months in demo is nothing. Did you really do 100 operations with the same strategy?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
I understand you too much. I have been 7 months and I haven't seen a positive month. I love the analysis, but as soon as I enter the market, I become a mess. It's frustrating.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Have you tried operating only one asset, in one session, with one technique? That helped me reduce mental chaos and loss.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Many will tell you "patience", but few explain what to do while you wait. Try recording while you operate. Then look as if you were someone else. You will learn more from yourself than from the market.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
I operate three years ago and I still lose. So what? Does that make me a loser? No. It makes me someone who is still in the fight. Surrendering is not an option.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Brother, if you want different results, I did different things. Stop following gurus on YouTube, I chose a strategy and express it until I really understood it.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
It is normal, yes. But it is also normal for many to stay in that cycle without moving forward. The difference between a novice and a professional trader is not in how much they earn, but in how much they learn from each loss.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Losing for several months in a row may seem alarming, but in reality it is one of the most common and necessary processes in the path of learning trading. The problem is that many people enter this world with unreal expectations: they want to double their account in weeks, live of trading in months? and not accept that this is a job like any other, which requires years of training, experience and correction of errors. It is not that losing is the objective, but it is an inevitable part of the process. The most common error is to believe that a strategy that fails in 2 or 3 months does not work. How many operations did you take with that strategy? 100, 200? Most of the times, we do not even get to a sample size big enough to be able to evaluate its real effectiveness. Also, in those first months, the problem is not the strategy, but how we execute it: lack of discipline, of patience, of confidence. All that weighs more than the system itself. Another key factor is the emotional management. Many traders lose not by bad technique, but by emotional sabotage. Skip rules, move stops, over after a loss of the system, that is not a fundamental failure of the system.

Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for taking the time to write this. I felt very identified, I needed to read something like that.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
All right with your reflection, but how do you know what you're doing isn't a waste of time? There are people who never get better.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Excellent contribution, I'll reread it several times.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Very motivating, but it would be good to see a concrete example of operations journal. Can you share one?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
This message made me realize that I am letting my emotions dominate every entry I make.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
It sounds very nice everything, but the reality is that losing money in practice is different from accepting it in theory. How is that managed without breaking mentally?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for this message. It opened my eyes. I never thought the problem could be more emotional than technical.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Okay, but what if after you apply all that you still lose?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for sharing so much clarity. I keep the phrase "to be profitable is not to lose." Very powerful.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you, I honestly needed this push. I’ve been with negative results for 4 months and I was about to throw in the towel.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
And how to differentiate a bad statistical run from a system that doesn't work? It's easy to say from the outside...
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Isn't that a little idealistic that everyone can be profitable if they just follow the process? There are strong individual variables.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
It made me check my mistakes with another look. Thank you.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for so much honesty and structure. You can tell from experience.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you, I read it three times and I'm going to copy it in my diary.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Could you give me more detail on how you carry your diary?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
How do you measure if your emotions are interfering with your operation beyond the obvious?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
I don't deny it's useful, but there's a very romantic tone to "survive until the advantage appears." What if it never comes?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive view of the learning process.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you for clarifying the sample size. I always get frustrated for negative weeks without considering the long term.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Thank you, it helped me to understand why my results still do not reflect what I am studying.
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
One question, do you use any specific metrics to measure your emotional advances or do you just go for sensations?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Don't you think that focusing so much on the emotional can also become an excuse not to improve technically?
-
Re: Is it normal to lose for months in a row?
Do you have any daily routines to strengthen discipline and focus?
