Whenever I read strategies or systems, it seems that everyone forgets about the Asian session. Everyone talks about London and New York, but no one mentions Tokyo or Sydney. Is there no real opportunity during that period?
The Asian session is slow, boring and with inflated spreads. Why operate there if everything you want moves in London? I prefer to sleep than to see bodyless candles.
I operate exclusively during Tokyo and believe me, if you know how to read the Asian rank, you can predict very well breaks in London. But of course, that requires patience, something most here do not have.
The problem is that many enter the market looking for Wall Street type action and the Asian session simply does not offer that pace. But that does not mean that there are no valid setups.
If you operate pairs like AUD/JPY or NZD/JPY, the market is more than alive at that time. But of course, if you intend to move EUR/USD at midnight, luck with that.
I think nobody talks about that session because they just don't understand it. It's more technical, more predictable and without so much manipulation. But of course, less adrenaline = less likes.
Don't expect Instagram gurus to mention Tokyo, they can't show Lambos with 12 profit pips a day. They need to sell you the idea of "action and glory" in New York.
The irony is that many trading robots are optimized for the Asian session precisely because of their low noise, but then they come here to say that "it's not worth it."
I've tried strategies based on the Asian rank and the truth is that they work very well if you have discipline, but of course, they don't work for impatient people who want to operate every candle.
On the contrary, the Asian session is the best for clean backtesting. There are not so many zipsaws and the support/resistance levels are much more respected.
