Thread: Does anyone else operate against the trend with real success?

  1. #1
I know that the trend is politically correct, but I have been operating with very good results for a couple of years against the main trend, looking for deep setbacks and exhaustion of movements. I want to know if there are more crazy people like me here who base their operations on areas of reversal and not simply on following the current. What kind of confirmations do they use? What timeframes? Short or broad objectives? I leave it clear that I am not talking about trying to hunt ceilings or floors because yes, but waiting for the impulse to give clear signs of weakness, and there to attack. I look forward to their ideas or criticisms (constructive or not).

I thought I was the only weirdo that did it! I use RSI and volume, but above all I expect pin bar exhaustion patterns in key areas. It works fine, but it is more demanding mentally.

You go straight to the wolf's mouth, mate. I tried and burned two accounts. Unless you have surgical patience and good risk control, I don't recommend it.

I think it's a valid approach if it's well structured. There are tools like OBV or the divergent MACD that help a lot to see the actual exhaustion. But that's true, not everyone can stand it.

And why not go for the trend and just go back? I don’t understand why it gets so complicated. This isn’t an ego contest.

Because the well-read setbacks are often more explosive than the trend itself. It’s not complicated, it’s taking advantage of what the market gives. But yes, it’s not for everyone.

I do it in M15 with very good results. I use the ATR to see when the impulse has already stretched too much, then I wait for an enveloping candle and enter with a short target. High success rate.

I congratulate you, but most who try that approach end up stuck in premature entries. How many times do you endure the price following you against 40 pips before turning?

I do well in H1, combining market structure with divergences. I use a dynamic trailing to not stay too long exposed. I do not look for eternal twists, only technical rebounds.

I only operate countercurrent when I have multiple confluences: strong zone + descending volume + exhaustion pattern. If you don't give all three, I don't look at it. I prefer quality to quantity.
