Thread: Whats the definition of Scalping?

It's a phrase often used but what really is the consensus definition?

Does it mainly depend on how long you hold on to the place or level of profit you take, I am guessing likely both but just how long and how much?

    Thanks,

    WJ

I think that 90 percent of traders, that talk about scalping, imply shortterm intraday trading. Hold positions for second or minutes. With profit goal from 1 - 15 pips.

I consider scalping the best way to profit. I've already mentioned broadly elsewhere how its finest done with two brokers. Buying through one through another with high stakes, and selling. The gains outweigh them, although an individual can frequently lose.

    Other explenation is:
    first in, first out.
    Like buying rumors, selling details.

In my opinion scalping might be even 20 pips, but for certain lots are higher then in position of regular, each trader.
It is the most agressive type of daytrading. Few trades daily.

    I scalp.

When folks refer to scalping it is usually one of 2 things.

    A) Capturing the disperse. For more information look at MB Tradings website about getting paid for limits. They have a great overview.

    B) Entering/exiting a trade quickly. Usually the trade lasts anywhere from several seconds to a few minutes. The target is to capture a couple pips then get out before price turns.

Previously I think most people who said scalp were referring to a. Nowadays, or maybe it's just the folks on this forum along with the others of it's kind, most people today tend to refer to b when speaking about scalping.

Really? Great. I like to go for the significant intra-day oscillations, by a minimum of 20 pips upwards (just how many of those 20 pips are captured is an issue of technique). Without volatility, I don't trade.

I always thought (and have observed different literature) refer to those transactions as scalping. . Possibly from the very short time frames its sometimes possible to find these moves in. My transactions can range from minutes to hours.

. . Well, I enjoy my method and cant imagine (at the moment) changing it to anything, but I hate the word 'scalping'

Max 15 pips? If you don't need to get out? Based on your pair (and if any major new is occuring), more like 1-200 pips, together with the typical depending on what pair is your preferred.

Or I'd see 1-15 pip's as a minimum, unless your trade was incorrect. (Just my opinion)

EDIT: Really. . nevermind. If you're trading the 1 min charts. . Going to get a company 1-15 pips may be your option. . The higher timeframes (still in moments) can allow you to capture more.

This is the easy way I scalp the markets (EURUSD is my favorite) and this is the only instrument I use. I really like Metatrader but this GUI makes scalping easy. I push green to buy, induce red to sell, push black green to shut buy, push black red to close sell, push yellowish to shut any trade in profit. I have no other whistles or bells beyond the bollinger band which makes me get a feel for direction. Since I started utilizing this instrument my trading is now profitable. I don't wait for any specific sign I simply stick to the movement of the market as best as I can and when I am incorrect on path I shut the trade and commence trading at the new direction. Scalping is the only way to exchange these arbitrary moves.

Forex Currency is trading small time period for an extremely short amount of time with minimal profit, but I think it is by far the most competitive approach to earn fast/big in forex. And the quickest way to blow accounts also
