    This may sound like a dumb question so please don't make fun of me. Considering that the oil prices are going up does that mean that the USD would be going up also?

    The problem is that like a currency pair, 1 half is expressed in terms of the other. Either side of the equation are both changeable and thus always changing.

    Say x is oil, y is the dollar then at time t:
    x=y t

    If the supply/demand equilibrium of x varies so that provide grows 10% quicker than demand over a year, then when y stays constant:
    1.1x y t 1 or x=y/1.1 Oil is currently about 10% cheaper
    If we reverse the supply/demand equilibrium afterward:
    0.9x=y t 1 or x=y/0.9 Oil is currently 10% dearer

    What if...

    The confidence in the markets and the fact that the geo-political situation isn't in the main pages nowadays, reduced the worries of the investors and the price of cruide oil has been sliding for many weeks. In case you haven't opened short positions along the way, do not do it now- you already missed the train... now we ought to wait until the prices break through 86 or 81 before it begins a new bullish session or resumes slipping. It appears like it is going to correct upward and if it does, it may retest the break-down level .

    My friends, it is always so with commodities, especially oil, rise, get men following some news occurs along with the price plummets.

    A couple of days will be new sanctions on Iran's petroleum, some other problem in the Arab world or some other new, also will probably be launched in another price increase.

    If you can open positions right now that support 74, 73 or 69 at worst a period of two weeks you may have a great profit.
