Thread: Question about the margin

  1. #1
Hello everyone, I am a beginner in Forex, can I ask the following?: If I open a purchase order of 1 lot in EUR/USD and, at the same time, I open a sales order, how is the margin calculated?I have found that on the NF platform it seems that margin is not needed, but on the IB platform it seems that. Can anyone explain how to calculate the margin for this situation?Thank you!

It depends on the broker.I am with FXSOLUns, and for a covered operation like the one you describe, they only require margin for the first position, not for the second.Check the orders input software of your broker; It may include a margin calculator.FXSOLIONS offers both a margin calculator and one of value per pip on its platform.

Your question about the margin makes sense, but you are overlooking something important: not all brockers handle coverage (hedges

Look, you should not be covering positions if you still don't understand how the margin works. You are complicating something that should be simple while you learn the foundations.Focus first to operate basically and understand how margin requirements work with a single position. The most advanced coverage and strategies will come later.

Thanks for the tips.It seems that covering positions adds complexity.Do you think I should avoid it until you understand how the margin works?

Absolutely.Coverage can be useful, but they are not necessary when you are starting. They can generate confusion and, in some cases, unnecessary costs, such as double commissions or spreads.Start with a simple strategy and understand the margin well in a single position.Later, when you have more experience, you can experiment with coverage if you think they are useful for your trading style.

Do you know what you really need to understand before covering positions? How additional costs such as swaps, spats and commissions are calculated. If you have no clarity about those concepts, you are probably losing more money than you think.Talk to your broker and request a detailed explanation of how they handle the coverage. Thus you avoid unpleasant surprises in your balance.

I do not understand why so many beginners become obsessed with the coverage. It's like trying to run before walking.Learn first how to handle a single position correctly.Coverage are not the magical solution that some think. In fact, they can be harmful if you don't understand them well.Do not use them as a patch for bad decisions.

I understand your curiosity, but covering positions is not something that all traders do, nor is it necessarily a recommended practice. Many professional traders do not even consider coverage because they prefer to cut losses quickly. Before covering positions, ask yourself if you really understand the associated risks and costs.Sometimes, simply accepting a loss and looking for a new opportunity is a better strategy.
