Lately I have been testing scalping strategies during the Asian session, especially in pairs like AUD/JPY and USD/JPY. Some days work as a clock, other days it is a torture of narrow ranges and absurd spreads. Does anyone else operate during this session? Is it really worth it or are we chasing ghosts in a half-dead market?
It depends on your broker and the spread you get nailed at that time. If you’re with a market maker, forget it. Sometimes the spread is bigger than the move.
I've been scalping in Asian for a year with decent results, the key is not to overrun, if the price is choppy, you're leaving.
Or fart! I prefer to sleep calmly and operate London with real volume. Asian is like watching paint dry waiting for something to happen.
Good topic. I use a strategy based on micro-range breaks right in Sydney’s first hour. You’d be surprised how effective it is if you have discipline.
The problem is that many enter without understanding that spread during Asia kills you any hope of winning something. It’s not that it doesn’t work, it’s for very trained hands and surgical setups.
I have tried it several times and always end up frustrated. It is as if the market is breathing with difficulty. There is no impulse, there is no volume, only illusions.
I do operate it, and I win. But of course, I have a broker with real ECN execution and I use tickcharts to measure the activity.
Are you really asking if it's worth scalping when the market is almost off? It's like selling ice cream at the North Pole, master.
So, if you're going to scalping in Asia, you have to be very selective with peers. EUR/USD is dead. But AUD/JPY or NZD/USD sometimes give nice moves.
