Thread: The goal is to survive

We all start in trading with great expectations. But over time we realize how huge the challenge is.I wasn't different. At the beginning, I only focused on profits, which led me to burn many small accounts in my rookie stage. But with the experience I understood that, before earning money, I had to show me that I would not lose it.That is why I decided to structure my objectives in two phases: 1. Prove that my defense is impeccable.2. Develop the best attack.Phase 1 This project began in January 2015. The first trading account, from January to May 2015, had 291 operations and was practically in balance.[https://www.myfxbook.com] (https://www.myfxbook.com/members/rona...rial-1/1605717

Today I want to talk about how to evaluate the performance of a portfolio.1. Sharpe forums such as Myfxbook only show this ratio, since it is the most used in the industry to measure performance. However, it has logical failures and can be manipulated to inflate results in losing systems such as martingala or strategies without stop loss. Here a link where it is explained very well: [https://www.myfxbook.com/community/General]zz

If you want to survive in the long term, there are some key points to improve.I saw that your maximum drawdown exceeds 90%.A few pips against or an increase in the Spread could have caused a Margin Call.If you manage to reduce that drawdown, your chances of success will increase a lot.I wish you the best on this path!

I agree that a drawdown of that size is bad.But there are some details that I want to clarify: 1. My lowest balance was $ 58 during that drawdown. With my 21 pips stop loss, I would have needed 29 consecutive losses to burn the account. So your observation that "a few more pips" would have taken me is incorrect.2. If that drawdown had occurred at the beginning, with a balance of $ 109, it would still have supported 9 consecutive losses before a Margin Call.My goal with this account is to demonstrate that I do not have a negative bias, that is, that my expectation in Pips is not worse than the costs of the broker. So far I have succeeded.

About the discussion in another thread: I want to show that EAS backtes can be useful.I attach an EA for those who want to try it.Configuration: - London/New York sessions/Asia adjusted according to the broker.- SL: 21 pips in 5 digit brockers;2 pips in 4 digit brockers.- Strategy based on positive Pips.I used Dukascopy Tick data for MT4 test.WARNING: This EA is only educational.Use it under your own responsibility.

I uploaded the live trading explorer for phase 2 on the main page. The defensive ideas come from phase 1, and I have been perfecting the offensive part 16 months.Go for it!

Milestone reached!I exceed 1,001 operations in one year.Total losses: 2%.The next challenge is to reach 1,501 without burning the account.
