I just saw the EUR/JPY pair and I got the killer instinct activated. Everything screams "sell now." But I also learned that that "scream" is the one that takes me straight to the SL, so I waited for confirmation. Nothing. I didn't operate. This kind of self-control didn't have it a year ago. Maybe time made me mature as a trader. Or maybe I just got tired of losing as an idiot. Anyway, I'd rather not get stuck.
Once again, I got up early to see the opening of London and... nothing. Range. Silence. A flat market like puddle water. Before I would have entered the same, out of anxiety. Today I went to make coffee. Operating is also knowing not to operate. 90% of the time we are waiting. The problem is that 90% of traders hate to wait. I was one. Not anymore. Today I celebrate not clicking.
I tried meddling with the USD/CAD after the news of the crude oil. Logic told me that the Canadian dollar would be strengthened... and so it was. But I entered late. My entry was mediocre and I got the SL. The lesson is that being right is not enough. If the execution fails, everything else collapses. I’m learning to distinguish between a good idea and a good operation. Sometimes they coincide. Sometimes they don’t.
Today I felt the urge to risk more than I should. It was a trade that "looked too clear." My fingers were biting. But I opened the logbook, I saw the times that it ended badly and I turned back. That little internal victory is worth more than 50 pips. Because it implies that I am starting to beat my worst enemy: myself. The market can do whatever it wants. But if I control myself, I already earn something.
